Title: Energy efficient solutions for DHCS in Europe – Presentation of InDeal project/Horizon 2020
Facilator: Bertrand GUILLEMOT Member and chairman of the DHC+ Technology Platform Euroheat & Power (international network for district energy, promoting sustainable heating and cooling in Europe and beyond)
In the first round table debate the project coordinator, Serafeim MOUSTAKIDIS (CITY) presented the project’s overview focusing on the project’s objectives and the consortium’s main goals set in InDeal. He told about the project’s concept and approach presenting what kind of works were proceeded in the project, what are the projects results dividing them for software and hardware innovations. The two real case studies – district heating and cooling (France) and district heating (Slovenia) networks – were shortly presented. The presentation showed structure of the InDeal Platform and expected impacts of implementation of the solutions in the real cases. After the presentation round table debate took place where Serafeim MOUSTAKIDIS, Emil LEZAK (IZNAB), Samuel PETIT (SNCU) and Bertrand GUILLEMOT discussed possibilities of replication of the InDeal system and its environmental and economic impact.

In the second session Athanasios ANAGNOSTIS (CERTH), Bartosz MARCINIAK (PROMAR) and Mladen PENEV (NET) presented to the audience the innovative results developed in the InDeal project and created software part in form of the Central Monitoring and Control Platform – Energy Storage Model, Decision Support System with Weather Forecasting Tool, and Central Web Platform. The presenters and representative of the real case study in France – Isabelle RODOT (SERM) during the debate talked about potential of replication of presented solutions. Isabelle RODOT talked about the solutions implemented in the demo site and how their implementation improved the network’s management and effectiveness of heat/cold distribution.

The third session focused on hardware innovations proposed by InDeal consortium where Elise SAOUTIEFF (CEA), Bartosz MARCINIAK (PROMAR) and Javier OJER (NAITEC) presented results like new insulation material and piping system for DHC, thermal and water flow energy harvester, and unit for communication with meters in network and data transfer based on artificial intelligence. After the presentations during the round table debate like earlier the representative of the real case study – Isabelle RODOT (SERM) joined the presenters and talked about implementation of the presented hardware solutions, their impact on the network’s operation.

As the last speaker of the conference Ms. Adina Revol – Economic Advisor in the European Commission – presented to the audience the main information about Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Framework Program, so everybody could understand what is the Horizon 2020, how it works and what kind of projects can be funded in the program. She also presented some of future plans of the European Commission regarding the 9th Framework Programme – Horizon Europe. Questions from the audience after each session showed big interest in InDeal, and also in future projects by fruitful discussion about Horizon Europe.
